FASHION AND POLITICS
Like it or not, looks matter.
A politician's style impacts their candidacy. They need to come off professional, and business orientated. If Obama was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt at a speech, no one would take him serious. There is certain attire that is expected at different locations, settings, events or functions.
A woman with power. Being in the public eye, her every move will be monitored. What she wore, what’s she doing, and what events she will be attending. We followed Hillary Clinton, as a pioneer in the First Lady position, Member of the Senate, and Secretary of State. Now we have come to know her more than as that. With her campaign “Are You Ready” beginning, we are in for a ride. As fashionista, we ponder if her statement garments will impact society. Thus as Michelle Obama did. Who will style her, what will she wear? Most of all, who will be her stylist? Thus far, we have been able to see her style change throughout the years. This is only the beginning. |
Looks matter, especially for women working in a predominately male profession. As women working in politics, their fashion always has constant emphasis. Hillary Clinton is a great example of this. Emphasis was always placed upon her pantsuits or hair scrunchies. Clinton used this to her advantage, allowing her sophisticated manner inspire women. Each pantsuit is tailored to her frame. Femininity doesn’t always mean dresses and a- line skirts. Clinton likes a bold accessory, or her pearls. Clinton stands as a legendary American public figure who knows how to use fashion as an advantage.
What makes a politician a fashion icon: playing a major role in society, setting fashion trends, participating in fashion media. Sheikha Moza bint Nasser graced the pages of Vogue and Vanity Fair, and is also known for mixing traditional Middle East style with couture. Being in this position allows for many opportunities. Being recognized as an influential and powerful women. Queen Rania is a trendsetter in the Middle East. Their stylish fashion sense appeals to American women, thus making them popular. Knowing your audience and how to appeal to them, can make a politician desired in the community. With their status in the community as a politician, individuals look up to them. Becoming a true rodel, individuals start to emulate them. Their audience starts to remember them for studding garments worn during special events. Such as, Kate Middleton’s engagement to Prince William. Everyone will remember the elegant long sleeved lace dress worn on her wedding day. Kate Middleton became an individual to watch for her fashion sense. |
